The Nimiq Protocol Technical Roadmap is Now in the Nimiq Forum

The Nimiq Protocol Technical Roadmap is Now in the Nimiq Forum

The last post set out Nimiq's renewed vision: what the Nimiq Foundation is here to do, what it commits to, and where the protocol is going. A direction on its own is only intent. The roadmap turns that intent into a plan that shapes the future of the Nimiq protocol, and it will be discussed and finalized in the open so community members can participate with questions and suggestions.

The discourse to reach the final version will take place in the forum to make participation easier and to avoid messages and opinions getting lost in chats. It will take place in a new Protocol Roadmap category, organizing milestones in sub-categories. The introduction post is the place to start: it explains how the roadmap is organized and how the feedback rounds work. Each category has its own pinned post with a category description, an index of the milestones inside it, and a short explanation of what each milestone covers.

The entire roadmap covers eight sub-categories:

This is a first draft, a set of milestones and dependencies rather than a delivery schedule. Several items are still open technical decisions that are being explored, and we are open to discussing them with experienced developers from the Nimiq Community. That is exactly where your input matters most, so we invite you to join the chat.

The most useful replies are specific: which milestones to prioritize, what could be added, important trade-offs to be aware of, or current developments or research that complement what we are building and are worth knowing. Different opinions are welcome when they come with reasoning and suggestions, as long as they align with Nimiq's Vision. One note on scope: the flagship end-user app has its own Roadmap, so it is not part of this feedback round, and the protocol threads are not the place for exchange or market questions.

The community ground rules can be found in the forum alongside the threads and explain how the space works. The invitation is open to supporters, builders, node maintainers, and anyone passionate about our vision of building open payments to empower individuals worldwide. Start with the renewed vision if you have not read it, because the roadmap follows from it and the threads use it as their starting point.

What's next

The protocol is one half of the plan. The new flagship end-user app is the other, and it gets its own post and its own round of discussion. This will take place after we've finalized the Protocol roadmap to keep the discussion focused and avoid overwhelming the Nimiq Community.

Team Nimiq will be actively reviewing and commenting for the next few weeks. We will provide answers weekly after careful, thorough internal discussion with Team Nimiq technical experts. Changes from these discussions will go into a public version of the roadmap, which we'll add to the Nimiq Website and announce in a blog post with a changelog, so it's clear what moved and why.
